Round 1; Pick 4 #4
Minnesota (via Cleveland)
Matt Kalil | OT | USC | Stud left tackle for years to come. Kalil can protect the bllindside of the 2011 first round pick Christian Ponder. Should be a multiple year Pro-Bowler like his brother. |
Round 1, Pick 29 #29
Minnesota (via Baltimore)
Harrison Smith | FS | Notre Dame | Could be the best Safety the Vikings have had since Darren Sharper. About as “can’t miss” as a safety gets at this point in the draft. A great zone safety with good ballhawking skills. |
Round 3, Pick 3 #66
Minnesota
Josh Robinson | CB | Central Florida | A very gifted corner with elite speed. 5’10 199 guy who ran a 4.33 forty. Robinson was a three-year starter and has good ball skills. If he can pick up the defense the Vikings should be able to move Antoine Winfield to the Nickel Corner where he can play in the slot where he excels. |
Round 4; Pick 23 #118
Minnesota (via Cleveland)
Jarius Wright | Wr | Arkansas | Wright is a with a good burst of speed and quickness. Can separate from defenders out of his routes and can be dangerous returner based on skill set but has little experience in returning. Wright (5’10 182, 4.42)is a four year starter who will need to work on not getting jammed by bigger corners. |
Round4, Pick 33 #128
Minnesota (compensatory pick)
Rhett Ellison | H-Back | USC | Ellison (6’5 251, 4.88) will get a chance to be a starter out of camp as the lead blocker for AP and Gerhart. He is much more than just a blocker as Ellison has ability to play on the line as another TE or catch passes from the FB position. He has the toughness to develop into a better blocker but has the lunch pail mentality that should help him succeed. Should take over Jim Kleinsasser’s role as our hybrid TE/FB. |
Round 4; Pick 39 #134
Minnesota (compensatory pick)
Greg Childs | WR | Arkansas | Childs (6’3 219, 4.55) is a big, athletic receiver with good straight-line speed. Left school as a Junior and dealt with a knee issue. He was inconsistent in college but could be a gem if he can put it together. He does not have great speed and won’t be a deep threat for Minnesota. He sounds similar to Jenkins who works well in space and intermediate routes and can be another option in the red zone. Not a great blocker but is willing and can run a good |
Round 5, Pick 4
Minnesota (via Cleveland)
Robert Blanton | CB/FS | Notre Dame | Blanton (6’1 208, 4.70) is a long, rangy corner who will work well in a zone defense. He will be best used in nickle and other sub packages. Will need to make the team on special teams. |
Round 6, Pick 5 #175
Minnesota (via Cleveland)
Blair Walsh | K | Georgia | Walsh (5’9 187) is a three year starter who is very consistent and excels on kickoffs where he puts the ball in the end zone. Very possible he wins the job from the veteran Longwell and plays a huge role for the Vikings. |
Round 7, Pick 3 #210
Minnesota (via Cleveland)
Audie Cole | MLB/OLB | NC State | Cole (6’4 246, 4.81) is a great downhill linebacker who isn’t as athletic as some linebackers but uses his strength to his advantage. He could be a great special teams player like a Heath Farwell but will need to work on his coverage skills to be on the field consistently. He is smart enough to be a good stopgap backup if an injury strikes. |
Round 1, Pick 12 #219
Minnesota (via Cleveland)
Trevor Guyton | DT | California | Guyton (6’3 285, 5.07) is a fast player with a tremendous motor. He will mostly play DT for the Vikings and is a similar player to Christian Ballard. May be a better 3-4 end in the pros but had a great senior season where he showed glimpses of being a special player. |

Tyler Nielson | OLB | Iowa | (6’3 238, 4.74)Lean, defined, competitive, height-weight-speed prospect capable of nailing down a roster spot as a core special-teams player and as a versatile, swing backup for a 4-3 team. Must prove he can stay healthy. |

Quentin Salsberry | OG/C | Mississippi State | (6’2 307, 5.37)Scrappy, competitive, athletic, experienced interior blocker whose functional strength leaves something be desired. Projects best at center in the pros, although his versatility, intangibles and playing temperament could make him a valuable swing interior backup. |

Chase Baker | DT | Boise State | (6’2 292, 4.74)Two-down plugger with a squatty build — fleshy midsection, thick trunk and bulbous calves. Shows surprising initial quickness, good instincts against the run and a bulldog mentality. Smart, hardworking, try-hard overachiever. |

Eric Latimore | DE | Penn State | (6’6 275, 4.85) Latimore projects as a five technique defensive end. He doesn’t have enough pass-rushing skills to play end in a 4-3 defense. Played along side Devon Still and didn’t produce well. |

Terrell Resonno | DT | Missouri | (6’5 295, 4.93) Resonno should benefit from some quality defensive ends playing on either side of him. Last year was his first as a starter, and he recorded 35 tackles with four tackles for a loss and a couple of sacks. Resonno will need to improve his production in 2011 to make sure he gets drafted. |

Damian Weems | OT | Oregon | (6’5 318, 5.35)Invited to Players’ All-Star Classic. Recipient of the Bob Officer Award, presented to the player who excels in spite of physical adversity … 14-game starter at left tackle … Part of an offensive unit that ranked third in the nation in scoring, fifth in rushing and sixth in total offense, note that not one Oregon Ducks offensive lineman made All-Pac 12, even with those results. Tied for the second-best bench press (365 pounds) among offensive linemen during winter conditioning. |

Tydreke Powell | DE | North Carolina | Big athletic prospect with quickness and agility. Makes plays on the move, closes quickly. Has an apparent perfect health/durability record. Can be quick off the snap and disruptive. Weaknesses: Inconsistent quickness off snap. Not a natural knee bender. Gets high and upright after initial move and loses all power. Did not appear well conditioned during final season, and did not play well down the stretch. |
