Round 1, Pick 23 |
#23 | Keenan Allen | WR | California |
| Allen could be the deep threat playmaker that the Minnesota Vikings offense has been missing. Allen would be a tremendous compliment to Percy Harvin on the outside and Adrian Peterson running through defenders. He seems like the perfect fit for the Vikings west coast style offense. | ||||
Round 2, Pick 21 |
#43
|
Kevin Minter | LB | LSU |
| Minter is the unheralded cog in the top-ranked LSU defense. Vikings starting MLB Jasper Brinkley is a Free Agent and has had mixed results to say the least as a starter. Brinkley is a very good run-stopper but struggles mightily in coverage. Minter seems to be in the same mold (run-stopper) as Brinkley but could be developed into a better coverage ‘backer. Minter currently has a round 2-3 draft grade and is worth considering if he is the best available player. Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o is the top rated MLB prospect and is projected to go in the Top 10 before the Vikings will have a chance to draft him. The current number two rated MLB prospect is Alec Ogletree from Georgia who has a late first round draft grade. | ||||
Round 3, Pick 23 |
#83
|
Robert Lester | SS | Alabama |
| He is a good overall safety who defends the deep part of the field well. Lester also has more ballhawking skills than most safety prospects and will have three years of starting experience entering the NFL. | ||||
Round 4, Pick 7 |
#99
|
Brandon Williams | DT | Missouri Southern State |
| Williams was voted the MIAA defensive player of the year and finished the season with 18.5 tackles for loss including 6.5 sacks. The senior certainly has the frame to play nose tackle and the week of practice in Mobile could drastically influence his evaluation. | ||||
Round 4, Pick 23 |
#117
|
Jelani Jenkins | OLB | Florida |
| As one would expect for a linebacker of his size, Jenkins can get swallowed up, at times, when attacking the line of scrimmage. However, attacking is precisely the way to describe Jenkins’ style of play as he reads the action quickly and is extremely aggressive, often beating the behemoth offensive linemen he’s competing against to the action. | ||||
Round 5, Pick 23
|
#148
|
Marc Anthony | CB | California |
| Well-built, productive in run support and deceptively athletic, Anthony has the frame and game to intrigue pro scouts at the cornerback and safety positions. He could be the long-term replacement for Antoine Winfield in the slot corner position. | ||||
Round 6, Pick 13 |
#165
|
Kenjon Barner | RB | Oregon |
| Barner lacks the size that NFL teams are looking for in feature runner but like former Duck’s RB LaMichael James (and the Ducks other explosive true sophomore DeAnthony Thomas), Barner possesses the vision and acceleration to turn a routine carry or reception into a game-changer. Barner could be the true change-of-pace back that the Vikings have been lacking on offense | ||||
Round 6, Pick 23 |
#175
|
Aaron Mellette | WR | Elon |
| Mellette has been incredibly productive at the FCS level and showed very well last season against Vanderbilt’s zone coverage. Mellette’s best asset is his route running but evaluators will need to determine if he has enough burst and speed to be more than a possession option. He could be the replacement to Michael Jenkins in working the middle of the field in the possession/blocking role. | ||||
Round 7, Pick 23 |
#213
|
Jeff Locke | P | UCLA |
| Possessing a legitimate NFL frame for the position and a booming leg, Locke certainly looks the part. He’s consistently been able to flip the field for the Bruins as a punter, ranking among national leaders in net punting throughout his entire career. The leg strength is perhaps even more noticeable on kickoffs, as he has had 55 touchbacks over his career. Vikings’ Kluwe may be released due to a down year and a increase in salary. | ||||
