2013 Draft: QB prospect rankings

Latest News:

NFL personnel “people” recently told Russ Lande that NC State QB Mike Glennon’s tape reminds them of Matt Ryan’s while at Boston College.

“Perhaps the quarterback that has NFL evaluators the most split, Glennon gets a chance to prove he should be a first round pick,” Lande wrote. Like Ryan, Glennon’s tape is full of mistakes, but teams will be intrigued by his wow throws, frame, and ability to quickly work through progressions.

NC State senior QB Mike Glennon completed 35-of-53 attempts for 383 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions against Vanderbilt.

Two of Glennon’s interceptions were poor decisions thrown falling off of his back foot. The senior certainly didn’t get any help from his receivers, but Gelnnon didn’t make it easier on himself. A team may fall in love with his size, arm, and success in an up-tempo, quick decision offense, but we have many questions left unanswered. Mon, Dec 31, 2012 04:04:00 PM

“There are a lot of people out there who see some Matt Schaub in” NC State senior QB Mike Glennon, according to one NFL scout who talked with CBS Sports’ Rob Rang.

The scout added that “Glennon looks the part and in this class,” and “that could be enough.” Its easy to see what many like about Glennon, especially in a fast paced, short step offense where quick decision making and height are advantages. Still, he won’t be everyone’s favorite, but Glennon certainly has a chance to be an early first-round pick. Dec 19 – 1:04 PM

On a conference call, ESPN’s Mel Kiper stated that NC State senior Mike Glennon could be the first QB off the board.

Everything is so fluid at this point since it is very early in the process, but nothing would surprise us regarding this quarterback class. Without a clear top option, every team will fall in love with a certain “flavor” of quarterback, and the range of grades and rankings of this group will likely vary drastically. Dec 11 – 11:21 AM

tVa Scouting Report:

Mike Glennon’s name has been brought up as a possible high first round pick due to the lack of a clear-cut #1 QB this year. While he possesses the prototypical size, NFL arm and ability to run an offense, he has holes in his game. He lacksmobility in the pocket and  does not step up vs. the rush.  When he has a clean pocket and time he can make any throw and “wow” you at times. However, when faced with a rush he breaks down and will throw off his back foot, or speed things up usually ending up in a mistake.

Glennon absolutely has talent, but he doesn’t have Matthew Stafford’s arm, he is severely limited athletically and struggles in the pocket.

The Vikings aren’t in the market for a starting quarterback in this draft and certainly not one that is likely to be over-valued in round one of the draft.  They will avoid him.
